A heart attack is a condition in which blood flow to the heart muscle is blocked and the muscle is damaged. The main reasons why heart attacks are increasing even among young people today are:
Atheorosclerosis: Bad cholesterol (LDL) in the blood accumulates in the arteries that carry blood to the heart (coronary arteries). This causes the blood vessels to narrow and blood clots to form.
High blood pressure (Hypertension): Uncontrolled BP thickens the walls of the heart arteries and puts an excessive workload on the heart. This leads to heart attacks over time.
Diabetes and insulin resistance: Increased blood sugar levels can damage blood vessels and nerves. Diabetics are much more likely to have heart attacks than others.
Smoking and drug use: The carbon monoxide in tobacco reduces the amount of oxygen in the blood and causes swelling in the blood vessels. This increases the risk of blood clots.
Excessive stress and lack of exercise: Chronic stress increases heart rate and blood pressure. Lack of physical activity leads to fat accumulation and decreased heart efficiency.
