Main causes of acne
Hormonal changes: During adolescence, the increase in androgen hormones activates the sebaceous glands and causes them to produce more oil. Hormonal changes can cause acne during the days before menstruation and during pregnancy.
Oily skin: Some people are genetically predisposed to having more oil on their skin. This causes clogged pores.
Bacteria: The bacteria Propionibacterium acnes multiply in the pores of the face, causing inflammation and red pimples.
Dietary habits: Some studies suggest that eating too much sugar, dairy products (especially skimmed milk), and foods high in oil and fat may increase acne.
Cosmetics: Applying creams, makeup, and hair oils that clog the pores of the skin (comedogenic) to the face can cause acne.
Stress: Although stress does not directly cause acne, it can worsen existing acne.
Poor hygiene: Not cleaning the face properly causes dirt and oil to accumulate.
