Main causes of heart attacks
Excessive cholesterol: An increase in bad cholesterol (LDL) in the blood causes plaque formation on the walls of blood vessels and obstructs blood flow.
High blood pressure (High BP): Having high BP for a long time weakens blood vessels and increases the risk of attack.
Diabetes: Uncontrolled blood sugar levels damage blood vessels.
Smoking: Smoking narrows blood vessels and increases the risk of blood clots.
Lifestyle: Lack of exercise, obesity, and excessive mental stress affect the functioning of the heart.
Wrong eating habits: Foods fried in excess oil, fast food, salt, and sweets are harmful to heart health.
Genetics: People with a family history of heart attack (e.g., a parent) are more likely to have this condition.
Age and gender: The risk increases with age. Heart attacks are more common in men, but women are also at higher risk after menopause.
