Main Reasons for Knee Pain
Osteoarthritis:
As we age, the cartilage (soft part that protects the bones from rubbing) between the bones in the knee wears down. This causes the bones to rub together and cause severe pain.
Obesity:
When the body weight increases, the entire pressure is felt on the knees. Excess weight accelerates the wear and tear of the knees and increases the pain.
Injuries:
Ligament Rupture (ACL/MCL Tear): Damage to the ligaments in the knee during sports activities or accidents causes severe pain.
Meniscus Injury: Injuries that occur to the cushion-like part inside the knee.
Arthritis:
Rheumatoid arthritis: A condition in which the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks the joints in the knee.
Gout: Increased levels of uric acid in the blood cause the formation of crystals in the joints and pain.
Muscle weakness:
If the thigh muscles (Quadriceps) are weak, the knee has to struggle more to support the weight of the knee. This leads to pain.
Lifestyle:
Working continuously while sitting on the floor, going up and down stairs excessively, and lack of exercise can also affect the knee.
