While the intestines control the digestion process, the liver removes toxins from the body. The two work in tandem. The main reasons for their health damage are:
Processed foods and excessive sweetness: Flour dishes, artificially sweetened drinks, and processed meats destroy the good bacteria in the intestines. This causes inflammation in the intestines and leads to the accumulation of fat in the liver (Fatty Liver).
Alcohol: Alcohol is the biggest enemy of the liver. When alcohol is consumed in excess, it destroys liver cells and leads to fatal conditions like cirrhosis. This can also adversely affect the absorption capacity of the intestines.
Lack of fiber: A decrease in fiber in the diet causes constipation. The accumulation of waste in the intestines can cause toxins to mix with the blood. Having to cleanse it puts an excessive workload on the liver.
Unnecessary medication use: Regular use of painkillers and antibiotics without a doctor’s prescription can slow down the natural structure of the intestines and the functioning of the liver. Since the liver is responsible for cleaning the chemicals in the drugs, this can cause liver inflammation.
Physical inactivity: Lack of exercise increases body fat. This affects bowel movements and increases the risk of fatty liver disease (NAFLD).
