The ears, eyes, and brain play an important role in maintaining the body’s balance. Changes in these are the main causes of dizziness:
1. Inner Ear Issues
The most common cause of dizziness is problems with the inner ear. When the amount or balance of fluid in the ear changes (for example, BPPV or Meniere’s disease), the head feels spinning and the surrounding area feels like it is spinning.
2. Changes in blood pressure
A sudden drop in blood pressure (Low BP) causes reduced blood flow to the brain. This is why you feel dizzy when you stand up suddenly from sitting. Similarly, high BP can also cause dizziness.
3. Anemia
A decrease in the iron content in the blood reduces hemoglobin and prevents the brain from receiving enough oxygen. This can cause chronic dizziness and fatigue.
4. Dehydration
Dehydration reduces blood volume and affects brain function. Not drinking water in hot weather or after exercise can cause dizziness.
5. Low Blood Sugar
A sudden drop in blood sugar levels (hypoglycemia) in diabetics or those who have not eaten for a long time can cause dizziness.
6. Mental stress and migraines
Excessive anxiety and stress can cause dizziness. In addition, severe dizziness is also seen along with headaches in people with migraines.
