Osteoarthritis: This is a condition in which the soft part of the cartilage that covers the bones in your joints wears away. When this happens, the bones rub against each other, causing severe pain and swelling.
Being overweight: When you gain weight, it puts the most pressure on your knees and foot joints. This accelerates wear and tear.
Weak muscles: If the muscles that support your knees are weak, more pressure is placed on your joints and pain increases.
Age-related changes: Joint wear and tear is normal after the age of 50.
Past injuries: Previous injuries to your feet or joints (accidents, playground injuries) can cause wear and tear later on.
