Although the exact causes of melanosis are not yet fully understood scientifically, the following are considered to be the main causes:

Main causes of melanosis (Reasons)
Immune system disorders (Autoimmune Disease):
This is considered the most important cause. The body’s immune system mistakenly attacks and destroys the melanocyte cells in our own skin.

Genetics/Hereditary:
If someone in the family has melanosis, the next generation is more likely to get it. However, this does not necessarily occur in everyone.

Neural Theory:
It is also believed that certain toxins released from the nerves in the skin destroy melanocytes.

Self-destruction:
This may be due to the process of melanocyte cells destroying themselves.

Other causes:

Severe stress: Severe psychological stress can trigger melanosis in some people.

Injuries: White patches can also form after cuts, burns, or chemical allergies to the skin.
