Muscle weakness: When the abdominal muscles naturally weaken, internal organs (especially the intestines) push through them.
Excessive pressure: Sudden, strong pressure on the abdominal muscles causes hernia.
Lifting heavy objects incorrectly.
Chronic constipation.
Chronic cough.
Pregnancy (due to the expansion of the uterus).
Age: Muscle weakness increases the risk of hernia with age.
Genetic factors: If someone in your family has had a hernia, you are also at risk.
Surgeries: If you have had any previous surgeries on the abdominal area, the muscles in that area are likely to weaken (Incisional Hernia).
Excess weight: Abdominal fat puts pressure on the muscles.
