Hearing loss can occur suddenly or gradually. There are many causes for this. The most important ones are given below:

Main causes of hearing loss
Age-related: As we age, the cells in the inner ear become weaker and our hearing ability gradually decreases (presbycusis).

Excessive noise exposure: Continuous exposure to loud noises, loud music, and excessive use of headphones can damage the auditory nerves.

Earwax: Excessive wax buildup in the ear can cause temporary hearing loss.

Infections: Ear infections, swelling, and pus can reduce hearing.

Side effects of medications: Some strong antibiotics, painkillers, and other medications can adversely affect hearing.

Genetic causes: If someone in your family has hearing loss, you are more likely to develop it.

Trauma: Ear injuries and ruptured eardrums can cause sudden hearing loss.

Diseases: Diabetes, high blood pressure, and thyroid problems can also affect hearing.
