Dietary habits: Eating foods that are high in purines is the main reason.
Red meat: Beef, mutton, etc.
Seafood: Shrimp, squid, and some types of fish (sardines, mackerel).
Sweet drinks: Soft drinks, sweetened drinks (the fructose in these will increase uric acid).
Alcohol: Beer and other alcoholic beverages increase uric acid and prevent its excretion.
Obesity: In overweight people, the body produces more uric acid and the kidneys find it difficult to excrete it.
Diabetes & Blood Pressure: High blood pressure and insulin resistance can cause uric acid to increase.
Kidney failure: When the kidneys are unable to filter the blood, uric acid accumulates in the body.
Medications: Some BP medications (Diuretics) and chemotherapy drugs can increase uric acid levels.
Genetics: People with a family history of uric acid problems are more likely to develop it.
