Main causes of stomach cancer
Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection: This is a type of bacteria found in the stomach. It can cause long-term infection and inflammation of the stomach (Gastritis), which can lead to cancer over time.
Dietary habits:
Salty foods: Regular consumption of excessively salty dried fish, pickles, and processed foods can damage the stomach wall and increase the risk of cancer.
Lack of fruits and vegetables: Eating less fiber-rich foods and fruits and vegetables increases the risk.
Smoking and alcohol: Smokers are more likely to develop stomach cancer than non-smokers.
Chronic stomach diseases: Long-term stomach ulcers, gastritis, or stomach polyps can develop into cancer if left untreated.
Genetics: If your parents or close relatives have had stomach cancer in your family, you may have a genetic predisposition.
Age and gender: The risk increases with age (especially over 50 years of age). It is more common in men than in women.
