Abnormal swelling in the abdomen that suddenly appears! 5 main scientific reasons behind the occurrence of hernia

A sudden small swelling in the abdomen, navel (neck) or between the thighs, and that part protrudes more when coughing or bending over—this is the main symptom of hernia. There is a wall that firmly supports the internal organs (especially the intestines) and muscles in the body. A hernia is a condition in which a hole forms due to the weakening of this muscle wall and the internal organs protrude through it. Here are the 5 main scientific reasons behind the occurrence of hernia:

Increased Intra-abdominal Pressure: The most important scientific reason for the occurrence of hernia is a sudden or long-term increase in pressure inside the abdomen. When you go to the gym and lift heavy weights without wearing the right belt, do hard work, and suddenly bend over and lift large objects, you experience severe stress on the abdominal muscles. This pressure can tear the muscles and cause a hernia.

Chronic severe constipation and urinary incontinence: People who have the habit of straining during bowel movements and sitting on the toilet for days without defecating can constantly damage the abdominal muscles. Similarly, older men may have difficulty urinating due to enlarged prostate (BPH). This constant straining can weaken the muscle wall and cause a hernia.

Chronic Cough: People who have a chronic cough that lasts for months (for example, a cough caused by COPD, asthma, or heavy smoking) can experience a lot of strain on the abdominal muscles every time they cough. This can cause holes to form between the muscles and a hernia to protrude.

Previous surgeries and muscle weakness (Incisional Hernia): In people who have had any major operations on the abdomen (cesarean section, appendix or other surgeries), the muscles in the area where those wounds have healed are naturally weak. Later, even if there is a slight pressure on that area, the muscles can pull apart and push the intestine out through the stitches. This is called an incisional hernia.

Age, obesity, and heredity (Weakness of Muscle Wall): As we age, the natural elasticity and strength of the muscles in the body decreases. Along with this, the abdominal muscles are always tense and tight in people who are overweight and have a large belly, which increases the risk of hernia. Hernias can also occur in people with hereditary factors and due to the expansion of the abdominal muscles in women during pregnancy.
