Chronic back pain is a major health problem that is most common even among young people today and affects daily life. Symptoms include sudden pain in the middle of the body like lightning when bending over, and a feeling of heaviness below the hips when standing or sitting for a long time. This is due to changes in the structure of the spine and a wrong lifestyle. Here are the 5 main scientific reasons behind back pain:
Poor Posture & Ergonomics: The most important scientific reason for back pain is sitting in the wrong way for a long time. Especially IT employees and office workers who slouch in front of the computer for hours on end, which puts severe pressure on the muscles and ligaments of the spine. This affects the natural curvature of the spine and leads to chronic back pain.
Slipped Disc / Disc Prolapse: Intervertebral discs are rubbery cushions between the bones of our spine that act as shock absorbers. When we bend over and lift too much weight suddenly, or fall from a car, these discs can slip out of place (Slipped Disc). When the slipped disc presses on the nearby nerves, severe pain radiates from the middle to the legs. Scientifically, this is called sciatica.
Lumbar Spondylosis: As we age, the bones of the spine and the discs between them naturally wear out. This is called lumbar spondylosis. Due to the loss of fluid in the discs, the bones rub against each other, causing severe pain in the spine and stiffness in the back when we wake up in the morning.
Obesity & Weak Core Muscles: Our spine is supported by the abdominal and core muscles. These muscles are very weak in people who do not exercise. Along with this, in people who are obese and especially those with a large belly, the entire weight of the body comes to the front and the spine has to strain excessively to support it. This excess weight causes back pain.
Vitamin D3 and Calcium Deficiencies (Nutritional Deficiencies): Calcium and Vitamin D3 are essential nutrients for the strength of bones and joints. When Vitamin D3 is low in people who do not get enough sun and do not have a proper diet, bone density decreases (Osteoporosis) and muscles easily become tight and tired. This weakens the spine and causes severe back pain.
