Cancer is a condition in which cells in the body grow uncontrollably and do not die. It can be prevented to some extent by making changes in lifestyle and diet. The main causes are:
Alcohol use (tobacco and alcohol): One of the biggest causes of cancer is the use of tobacco. Cigarettes and tobacco products cause cancer in the lungs, mouth, and throat. Excessive alcohol consumption leads to cancers that affect the liver and breast.
Unscientific diet: Consumption of over-processed foods and red meat increases the risk of colon cancer. A diet low in fruits and vegetables reduces the body’s immunity.
Environmental factors and radiation: Air pollution, exposure to chemicals, and ultraviolet rays in sunlight can cause cancer. People working in industrial sectors are at increased risk of the disease due to inhalation of chemicals.
Genetic factors: Mutations in certain genes that are passed down through generations can increase the risk of cancer. If you have a family history of cancer, it is a good idea to get tested regularly.
Infections (Viruses): Some viruses can lead to cancer. For example, human papillomavirus (HPV) can cause cervical cancer, and hepatitis B virus can cause liver cancer.
