Unlike a normal headache, a migraine is a severe pain that is felt only on one side of the head. Often, light and sound make the pain worse. The main factors that lead to this are:
Hormonal changes: Migraines are more common in women. Changes in the estrogen hormone that occur during menstruation or pregnancy can cause headaches. This problem is also seen in those who take hormonal medications.
Dietary changes: Certain foods can cause migraine pain (Trigger foods). These include aged cheese, excessively salty foods, and processed meat. In addition, artificial sweeteners (Aspartame) and Ajinomoto (MSG), which are added to foods to enhance flavor, can also cause migraines.
Mental stress and lack of sleep: Severe stress at work or at home is a major cause of migraines. Similarly, not getting enough sleep at night and sleeping too much can affect the nerves in the head and lead to pain.
Environmental factors: Strong sunlight, excessive noise, strong smells (perfume, paint), and glare from computer or mobile screens can cause sudden migraine pain in many people.
Changes in habits: Not eating on time (Skip meals) can reduce the sugar level in the body and cause headaches. Excessive caffeine consumption (tea, coffee) and sudden weather changes also increase the risk of migraines.
