The liver is an organ that plays a major role in the body’s detoxification and digestion. But some of our habits damage liver cells and make them inoperable. The main reasons are:
Excessive alcohol consumption: The most important cause of liver damage is alcohol. Long-term alcohol consumption causes inflammation in the liver (Alcoholic Hepatitis) and leads to a serious condition called Cirrhosis, in which cells are destroyed.
Fatty Liver: Excessive fat accumulates in the liver due to obesity, lack of exercise, and fatty foods. This is called non-alcoholic fatty liver. If not treated on time, it can cause scarring in the liver.
Viral Hepatitis: Viral infections like Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C destroy liver cells. These infections are transmitted through contaminated food, water, and infected blood. This can eventually lead to liver cancer.
Excessive use of drugs: Taking painkillers and other strong drugs for a long time without a doctor’s prescription can harm the liver cells. Even if it is Ayurvedic or alternative medicine, the metals in poor quality medicines can cause liver damage.
Diabetes and high cholesterol: Uncontrolled diabetes increases fat in the liver and causes inflammation. People with insulin resistance are more likely to develop liver diseases than others.
