This is a type of fungal infection that occurs on the skin. It is called ringworm because it appears as a red, circular rash. The main causes are:
Excessive sweating and humidity: Sweat that stays on the skin for a long time creates a favorable environment for the fungus to grow. People who wear tight clothes and sweat a lot are more likely to get infections in the folds of the body (armpits, thighs).
Contact with an infected person: Ringworm is contagious. The fungus can spread to someone else by touching the skin of an infected person or by sharing their clothes, towels, combs, and bed sheets.
Unhygienic conditions: Wearing wet clothes again and not drying the body thoroughly after bathing can cause fungal infections. You can also get infected by walking barefoot in public pools, gyms, and locker rooms.
Transmission from pets: This infection can be transmitted to humans from animals such as cats and dogs kept indoors. Special attention should be paid to animals with hair loss or itching.
Immunodeficiency: When the body’s immune system is weakened, the skin is unable to fight off infections. Diabetics and those taking other medications for a long time are more likely to develop ringworm and it can spread quickly.
