Is the pumping power of the heart reduced? 5 main reasons that weaken the heart muscle

Heart failure is a condition in which the heart’s ability to pump blood to all parts of the body decreases. The main reasons that lead to irregular heartbeat and shortness of breath are:

Previous Heart Attack: Damage to the heart muscle due to a previous heart attack is the main reason for the reduction in pumping capacity. The damaged muscles cannot pump blood as well as before.

Uncontrolled blood pressure: When there is high blood pressure (High BP), the heart has to work harder to pump blood to other parts of the body. Over time, this thickens the heart muscle and eventually causes it to weaken.

Heart valve defects: When the valves in the heart do not close properly or become narrow, the flow of blood is obstructed. This puts an excessive burden on the heart and reduces its pumping capacity.

Cardiomyopathy: This is a condition in which the heart muscle becomes weak, either genetically or due to infections. The heart enlarges and the muscles become stiff, causing it to lose its ability to pump blood.

Unhealthy lifestyle: Excessive alcohol consumption, smoking, diabetes, and obesity directly affect the functioning of the heart. Severe infections and side effects of certain medications can also affect the pumping ability.
