Dark circles and puffiness under the eyes are often considered a sign of fatigue. But there may be other serious reasons behind this:
Lack of sleep and excessive fatigue: Sleeping late at night and not getting enough rest cause the blood vessels under the eyes to dilate. This gives the skin a dark color and causes fluid retention and puffiness under the eyes.
Ageing: As we age, the skin around the eyes becomes thinner and collagen is lost. This makes the blood vessels under the skin more visible, which is how the dark color appears.
Dehydration and excessive salt intake: A decrease in the amount of water in the body can cause the skin under the eyes to become pale. Similarly, excessive salt in the diet can cause water retention in the body and cause puffiness under the eyes.
Excessive phone/computer use: Looking at screens for a long time causes great strain on the eyes. This causes the blood vessels around the eyes to dilate and dark circles to increase.
Heredity and allergies: Some people are genetically predisposed to dark circles around the eyes. Additionally, people with allergies tend to scratch and rub their eyes, which can cause the thin blood vessels under the eyes to burst and darken the area.
