Dinner should always be light and easily digestible. The main foods to avoid at night are:
1. Fried and deep-fried foods
Oily foods like French fries, chicken fries, and samosas take longer to digest. This can cause heartburn (acid reflux) and stomach discomfort at night.
2. Excessively sweet foods
Eating cakes, chocolate, and ice cream at night can cause a rapid increase in blood sugar levels. This disrupts sleep and leads to rapid weight gain.
3. Caffeinated drinks
The caffeine in tea, coffee, and energy drinks can keep the brain awake. It is best to avoid these at least 6 hours before bedtime.
4. Spicy and sour foods
Eating excessively spicy curries at night can increase acid production in the stomach. This can cause sleep disturbances and bloating.
5. Red Meat
Red meats like beef and mutton are high in protein and fat. Our digestive system has to work hard to digest them. This can prevent us from getting a deep sleep.
6. Carbonated drinks (Soda)
Soda and other soft drinks can cause gas problems at night. The high sugar and gas in them can put pressure on the stomach.
Things to do at night:
Eat at least two hours before going to bed.
Choose light foods like porridge, putty, idli, and vegetables.
Drinking a glass of lukewarm milk at night can help you get a good night’s sleep
