If diet alone does not help with anemia, you may need to see a doctor and take iron supplements. Avoid drinking tea and coffee immediately before or after meals, as these can interfere with the absorption of iron from food. Get your hemoglobin levels checked at regular intervals.
The main foods that help increase red blood cells in the blood are:
1. Leafy greens (especially spinach)
Spinach is rich in iron. Including leafy greens in your diet at least three times a week will help increase hemoglobin levels.
2. Dry Fruits
Dates, raisins, and dried figs are a storehouse of iron. Eating 2-3 dates daily is very effective in treating anemia.
3. Gooseberries and beetroot
Beetroot: Beetroot is great for increasing blood flow and producing new blood cells. It can be consumed as a juice or as a salad.
Gooseberries: The vitamin C in it helps the body absorb iron.
4. Meat and Eggs
Liver (goat or chicken liver), red meat, and eggs contain heme iron. This is absorbed faster by the body than iron from plant foods.
5. Nuts and Seeds
Almonds, cashews, pumpkin seeds, and sesame seeds are rich in iron. Eating sesame seeds mixed with jaggery has been an excellent way to treat anemia since ancient times.
An important thing to note (Vitamin C)
When eating iron-rich foods, include foods rich in vitamin C (lemon, orange, and tomato) along with them. Only then will the iron be fully absorbed into the body.
