Causes of Asthma

The exact cause of asthma is often not found. However, some of the important factors are:

Genetic factors: If parents or siblings in the family have asthma, it is more likely to develop.

Allergies: Childhood allergies (eczema, hay fever) can lead to asthma.

 

Environmental factors: Low birth weight, respiratory infections (especially in childhood), and excessive air pollution can be causes.

Asthma triggers
Things that cause sudden wheezing in people with asthma:

Allergens: Dust mites, pollen, pet dander, cockroaches, etc.

Infections: Respiratory infections such as colds, flu, and sinusitis.

Air pollution: Smoking, vehicle exhaust, fumes from factories, strong odors of paint/perfumes.

Weather: Sudden weather changes, extreme cold, and humidity.

 

Physical exertion: strenuous exercise (Exercise-induced asthma).

Emotional state: excessive anxiety, stress, laughter, or anger.

Main symptoms
A whistling sound when breathing (Wheezing).

Chest pain or a feeling of heaviness in the chest.

A cough that worsens at night or when waking up in the morning.

Difficulty breathing.
