Main reasons for increased uric acid
Dietary factors:
Foods high in purines: Excessive consumption of red meat (beef, mutton), internal organs (liver, kidney), and certain types of sea fish (sardines, mackerel, shrimp).
Fructose: The fructose in sugary drinks (soft drinks) and artificial fruit juices can increase uric acid.
Alcohol consumption: Especially beer significantly reduces the body’s ability to excrete uric acid.
Kidney function: When the kidneys are unable to completely excrete uric acid, it accumulates in the blood.
Obesity: In obese people, the body produces more uric acid, and the kidneys are unable to handle it effectively.
Lifestyle diseases: People with diabetes, high blood pressure (BP), and thyroid problems are more likely to have elevated uric acid levels.
Medications: Some medications (diuretics) used to lower BP can increase uric acid levels.
Heredity: Some people are genetically predisposed to having elevated uric acid levels in their bodies.
