Main causes of varicose veins
Nature of work: Standing for hours on end (for example, teachers, security guards, salespeople) or sitting for long periods of time increases pressure on the veins.
Age: As we age, the elasticity of the veins decreases and the valves weaken.
Genetics: If your parents or close relatives have varicose veins in your family, you are also more likely to get them.
Pregnancy: During pregnancy, the increased blood flow in the body and the weight of the uterus puts pressure on the veins in the pelvic area can cause varicose veins.
Obesity: Excess weight puts excessive pressure on the veins in the legs.
More likely in women: Hormonal changes (especially during childbirth and menopause) can affect the nerves.
