Main causes of knee pain
Osteoarthritis:
This is the most common cause. As we age, the soft part between the bones in the knee called ‘Cartilage’ wears down. This causes the bones to rub against each other and cause pain.
Injuries:
Injuries to the ligaments or meniscus of the knee during sports, falls, or injuries to the knee can cause pain.
Obesity:
When you gain weight, your knees experience a lot of pressure. Being overweight accelerates the wear and tear on your knees.
Arthritis:
Diseases such as Rheumatoid Arthritis cause inflammation and pain in the joints. Similarly, gout, which is caused by an increase in uric acid, can cause severe pain in the joints.
Muscle weakness:
If the thigh muscles (Quadriceps) are weak, the knee has to struggle more to support the weight of the knee. This leads to pain.
Lifestyle:
Working on the floor all day, going up and down stairs excessively, and lack of exercise can also affect the knee.
