Chronic Stomach Pain and Heartburn; 5 Things That Cause Ulcers

Ulcers are wounds that form on the inner wall of the stomach or small intestine. If not treated on time, they can lead to serious internal bleeding. The main causes are:

H. Pylori Bacteria (H. pylori Infection): The most important cause of stomach ulcers is the bacterium ‘Helicobacter pylori’. These destroy the protective layers of the stomach and cause ulcers by directly hitting the acid wall.

Excessive use of painkillers: Some painkillers (NSAIDs – for example, aspirin, ibuprofen) taken for a long time without a doctor’s prescription can damage the lining of the stomach. This increases the risk of ulcers.

Wrong diet and timing: Eating foods that are too spicy, sour, and spicy increases the production of stomach acid. Not eating on time is also a cause of ulcers.

Smoking and alcohol: Smoking increases stomach acid and slows down the healing of ulcers. Similarly, excessive alcohol consumption irritates the stomach lining and causes inflammation.

Stress: Although stress does not directly cause ulcers, it can worsen existing ulcers and increase acid secretion.
