Do you experience tingling and numbness in your hands and feet? 5 main causes

We often ignore sudden tingling, ‘pins and needles’ sensation, and numbness in your hands and feet. But it can be a serious problem related to the nervous system or blood flow. The main causes are:

Reduced blood flow: When you sit or lie down for a long time, the blood vessels constrict and the blood flow to that part of the body is interrupted. This causes temporary tingling. But persistent tingling can be a sign of blockage in the blood vessels.

Diabetic Neuropathy: Diabetes (Sugar) that remains uncontrolled for a long time damages the delicate nerves in the hands and feet. This causes chronic tingling and pain in the palms and feet.

Vitamin deficiency: Vitamin B12, B6, and B1 are essential for nerve health. Their deficiency causes nerve weakness and numbness in the limbs. B12 deficiency is more common in vegetarians.

Nerve Compression: Changes in the disc between the vertebrae in the spine (Slipped Disc) can cause pressure on the nerves. This causes numbness and pain that spreads to the arms or legs (Sciatica).

Thyroid problems and excessive alcohol consumption: A lack of thyroid hormone can cause fluid to accumulate in the body, which puts pressure on the nerves. Similarly, excessive alcohol consumption can directly damage the nerves, causing numbness and tingling.
