Numbness and tingling in the hands and feet: 6 causes that should not be ignored!

Numbness usually occurs when blood flow is disrupted by sitting still. But if it persists, the following may be the causes:

1. Nutritional Deficiency
Vitamins B12, B6, and B1 are essential for nerve health. Vitamin B12 deficiency in particular is a major cause of numbness and tingling in the hands and feet. This is more common in vegetarians and those with digestive problems.

2. Diabetes
High blood sugar levels over a long period of time damage the nerves (Diabetic Neuropathy). The first symptoms of this are numbness and tingling in the feet. It often starts in the soles of the feet.

3. Nerve Compression
When pressure is placed on the nerves due to disc problems in the spine (Spondylosis), numbness can spread to the hands and feet. Similarly, compression of the nerves in the wrist is called carpal tunnel syndrome.

4. Reduced blood flow
Insufficient blood flow to the extremities due to fat accumulation in the blood vessels (cholesterol) or other causes can cause numbness.

5. Alcohol
Excessive alcohol consumption destroys vitamins in the body and directly damages the nerves (Alcoholic Neuropathy).

6. Thyroid problems
Low levels of thyroid hormone (Hypothyroidism) cause fluid to accumulate in the body, which puts pressure on the nerves and causes numbness.

Remedies:
Nutrition: Include milk, eggs, leafy vegetables, and whole grains in your diet.

Exercise: Walking daily will help increase blood flow.

Checkup: Get diabetes and BP checked and controlled.

Correct sitting: Avoid sitting in the same position for long periods of time
