Main reasons for cataracts
Aging: The most important cause of cataracts is aging. In people over the age of 50, the proteins in the lens change and cause the lens to become cloudy.
Diabetes: Constantly high blood sugar levels can cause cataracts to develop faster.
Sunlight (UV Rays): Direct exposure to ultraviolet rays to the eye affects the health of the lens and increases the risk of cataracts.
Smoking: Smokers are much more likely to develop cataracts than non-smokers.
Eye injuries/bruises: Previous eye injuries, surgeries, or other eye infections can later cause cataracts.
Use of medications: Long-term use of medications containing steroids can cause cataracts.
Heredity: If someone in the family has had cataracts before, it is more likely to occur in children (Congenital Cataract).
Other diseases: Lifestyle diseases such as BP (High Blood Pressure) are also associated with the risk of cataracts.
