Iliotibial Band Syndrome:
The ‘IT band’ is a band of tissue that runs from the hip bone to below the knee. It tightens during excessive sports such as running and cycling, causing severe pain on the sides of the thighs.
Muscle Strain:
Excessive strain on the muscles in the thigh or minor injuries to the muscles due to sudden movements can cause pain.
Trochanteric Bursitis:
This is a condition in which the fluid-filled sacs called ‘bursa’ on the side of the hip bone become inflamed. This causes pain that radiates to the hip and side of the thigh.
Back Pain and Nerve Pressure (Sciatica/Referred Pain):
Pain can radiate from the middle to the sides of the leg due to disc problems in the spine or pressure on the nerves.
Poor sitting posture:
Continuously sitting with your legs crossed or sitting on hard surfaces for long periods of time can put pressure on the thigh muscles.
Overweight and lack of exercise:
Being overweight can put more pressure on the joints and muscles, causing pain.
