Minor injuries: Accidental biting of the tongue or inside of the cheek, injuries caused by using a toothbrush, or burning the mouth when eating very hot food.

Vitamin deficiency: Deficiency of vitamin B12, folic acid, iron, and zinc in the body can cause mouth ulcers.

 

Mental stress: Excessive tension and anxiety increase the risk of mouth ulcers.

Food allergies: Some people are allergic to tomatoes, citrus fruits (lemon, orange), chocolate, and spicy foods and can cause mouth ulcers.

Digestive problems: Stomach upset, constipation, and gas can also cause mouth ulcers.

Hormonal changes: Women can get mouth ulcers during menstruation or other hormonal changes.

Medications: The use of certain medications can cause mouth ulcers.

Weakened immune system: Mouth ulcers can occur when you have an illness or when your immune system is weak.
