Purine-rich foods: Uric acid is formed in the body when a protein called purine is broken down. Excessive consumption of foods high in purine can increase uric acid in the blood.
Examples: Red meat (beef, mutton), some types of sea fish, and internal organs such as kidneys.
Fructose-rich drinks: Fructose, which is found in sugary soft drinks and packaged fruit juices, can increase uric acid production.
Alcohol consumption: Drinking beer, in particular, interferes with the body’s ability to excrete uric acid.
Kidney function: Our body naturally excretes uric acid through the kidneys in the urine. If the kidneys slow down or are overloaded, uric acid can accumulate in the body.
