Living in Confined Spaces:
Space is very limited on a warship. Hundreds of people have very little space to work, sleep, and eat. Soldiers are forced to live in close quarters in this confined environment.
Loneliness and Isolation:
When you are in the middle of the ocean, there is very little communication with family or friends. Being thousands of miles from shore, in the same environment for months at a time, can be extremely stressful.
24/7 Continuous Vigilance:
Warships are always on alert. Every crew member on board is on watch standing duty on a shift basis. The safety and operation of the ship must be ensured day or night.
Dynamic Environment:
Rough seas, storms, and high waves make life on board difficult. Eating, sleeping, and working while the ship is constantly rocking is a big challenge.
Teamwork & Cohesion:
This is also a big reason. If there is an accident on the ship or a war-like situation arises, everyone has to work together. Each person’s job is related to the life of another. This instills extreme discipline and cooperation among the soldiers.
