Do you have excessive urine? Don’t ignore it, these could be the reasons!

Although it is normal to have a slight amount of urine when urinating, excessive urine that looks like soap scum can be a sign of some health problems. The main causes are:

Proteinuria: The most common cause of urine scum is protein loss. Proteins such as albumin are lost through urine when the kidney’s filtration system (filters) malfunctions. This can be an early sign of kidney disease.

Dehydration: When you don’t drink enough water, your urine becomes more concentrated and scum forms. This is indicated by the urine turning dark yellow.

Uncontrolled diabetes and BP: High blood pressure and diabetes damage the blood vessels in the kidneys. This affects the kidneys’ filtering ability and causes scum in the urine.

Urinary tract infection (UTI): Some types of bacterial infections can change the chemical composition of urine and cause scum. Be especially careful if it is accompanied by pain or straining.

Other causes: Temporary staining may occur due to air mixing in when urinating rapidly. Urine may also appear to stain when it comes into contact with chemicals used to clean the toilet.
