Does pain and numbness spread from the neck to the arms? 5 main causes

The numbness and tingling experienced in the arms is often not only a problem in the arms. The main cause is the compression of the nerves between the vertebrae in the neck. The factors that lead to this are:

Cervical Spondylosis: As we age, the bones and discs in the neck wear down. Due to this wear, the bones push out (Bone spurs) and put pressure on the nerves there. This causes severe pain and numbness that spreads to the arms.

Disc Herniation (Slipped Disc): This is a condition in which the disc between the vertebrae in the neck pushes out and presses on the nearby nerves. This causes shock-like pain to reach the fingers.

Poor Posture: Using your mobile phone with your head bent for a long time (Text Neck) or sitting hunched over in front of the computer puts pressure on the muscles and nerves in the neck. This can cause numbness and tingling in the hands over time.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome: Tingling in the palm and fingers is experienced due to compression of the nerves in the wrist. This is more common in people who use a computer mouse excessively and those who do sewing work.

Vitamin Deficiency and Diabetes: Vitamin B12 deficiency can affect the health of the nerves and cause tingling. In addition, uncontrolled diabetes can also cause such pain due to damage to the nerves in the hands and feet (Neuropathy).
