If you are experiencing bloating and flatulence due to gas problems, try these folk remedies before resorting to medication:
1. Carom Seeds & Cumin
The ‘Thymol’ present in carom seeds stimulates the digestive juices and helps in the rapid release of gas.
Directions: Boil a glass of water with half a teaspoon of carom seeds and a quarter teaspoon of cumin seeds and drink it. This will provide immediate relief from stomach ache and gas problems.
2. Buttermilk with Asafoetida
Hing is a herb that has been used for gas problems since ancient times. It regulates the activity of bacteria in the intestines and reduces flatulence.
How to do it: Mix a pinch of black salt and a little black salt in a glass of buttermilk and drink it after meals to completely get rid of gas.
3. Ginger & Lemon
Ginger speeds up the digestion process and prevents gas formation in the stomach.
How to do it: Mix the juice of a small piece of crushed ginger and the juice of half a lemon in a little lukewarm water and drink it. Drinking this before meals will make digestion easier.
4. Chew Fennel Seeds
Hotels do not serve fennel seeds after meals for nothing. It is very good for reducing gas, heartburn, and bloating.
How to do it: Make a habit of chewing half a teaspoon of fennel seeds well immediately after meals.
5. Pavanamuktasana and walking
Lying down immediately after eating can cause gas.
How to do it: Walk slowly for at least 10-15 minutes after eating. Also, doing ‘Pavanamuktasana’ (Wind-Relieving Pose), a yoga pose in which you lie down with your legs folded and held close to your chest, will help in releasing all the gas trapped in the stomach.
Things to note:
Eat food slowly and chew it well to avoid swallowing air.
Reduce the consumption of legumes, peas, cabbage and potatoes that cause gas.
Avoid talking while eating and drinking drinks through a straw
